Industrial water treatment pioneer continues to thrive and innovate

Brockville, ON – September 2, 2016: newterra, a leader in modular water, wastewater and groundwater treatment solutions, is raising the profile of its legendary COCHRANE brand of industrial, commercial and residential water treatment and deaeration systems. Since its origins in 1863, the COCHRANE name has been synonymous with innovation and robust equipment, having invented the deaerator almost a century ago. newterra gained the prestigious COCHRANE brand with its acquisition of the Crane Water business in 2014.

“We were very fortunate to acquire the rich history, engineering experience and great products that have made COCHRANE the name in industrial water treatment for over a century,” says newterra President & CEO Tom Vossman. “It’s a brand that our customers know and trust – and we’re building on the COCHRANE legacy by continuing to engineer, manufacture and support the best industrial, commercial and residential water solutions available.”

Digital Library of Over 1.5 Million Technical Drawings

The extensive COCHRANE knowledge base that has been built over more than 150 years lives on at newterra through continuity in staffing, in design philosophies that continue to evolve, and the almost 1.5 million technical drawings on file – most of which have now been digitized for quick reference. “COCHRANE is in our DNA here at newterra,” says Joe Strogus, Industrial Product Manager. “Through our long history and more recent enhancements, we have developed an extensive toolkit of technologies – from membrane filtration to ion exchange to deaeration. Where there’s water or steam, COCHRANE has a proven solution.”

newterra’s industrial, commercial and residential treatment equipment will now feature the “COCHRANE by newterra” branding, according to Richard Pazik, Vice-President, Industrial & Residential/Commercial – adding to the significant installed base of COCHRANE equipment. “Throughout the power generation, petrochemical and manufacturing sectors worldwide, you’ll find thousands of COCHRANE solutions treating water to very high standards,” comments Pazik. “We’re building on that tradition with continuous technical innovation that helps the clients we serve get water that meets their specifications more efficiently.”

COCHRANE Continues to be Choice of US Navy

Beyond supplying major Fortune 100 companies, COCHRANE’s advanced water treatment equipment has been the choice of the US Navy. Since 1934, it has provided boiler feedwater systems for ships in the fleet, including the Nimitz-class, nuclear-powered super carriers. The company is currently working on systems for the Ford-class aircraft carrier, USS John F. Kennedy.

From Large Industrial Systems to Residential-Sized ROs

At the smaller end of the treatment spectrum, the COCHRANE by newterra brand will adorn the company’s commercial and residential EPRO line of compact, efficient reverse osmosis (RO) systems. These high purity solutions for flow rates of 1,500 to 24,500 GPD (5.7 to 92.7 m3/day) continue to be produced at newterra’s dedicated Venice, FL production facility.

newterra also offers full service and genuine parts for COCHRANE and its other legacy brands, including Chicago Heater, Belco and Environmental Products.
