Wastewater Treatment System

A Decentralized Wastewater Solution Elevates Waterfront Community Planning

Newterra provided a flexible, sustainable wastewater solution that ensures regulatory compliance while supporting community growth.

Newterra’s modular MBR system offered Young’s Cove a scalable, eco-friendly wastewater solution that meets strict standards and supports phased growth with minimal disruption.

Industry

Waterfront Development

Location

Prince Edward County, Ontario

CAPACITY

111,000 GPD – 305,000 GPD

CHALLENGE

Young’s Cove is a thoughtfully planned, eco-conscious waterfront community nestled along the shores of Lake Ontario in beautiful Prince Edward County. Surrounded by protected wetlands, forested trails, and panoramic lake views, the development combines nature, recreation, and sustainability with modern living. With over 7,000 feet (2,133.6 meters) of shoreline, miles of pathways, and vibrant green spaces, preserving the natural environment was at the heart of every design decision—including the choice of wastewater treatment.

SOLUTION

Key advantages of the Newterra Newterra was selected to deliver a customized modular MBR system tailored to the development’s phased approach. The system is being rolled out in four stages to align with construction milestones: included:

  • Phase 1 Capacity: Servicing 125 homes
  • Full Buildout: Supporting approximately 500 homes
  • Flow Capacity: 111,000 GPD (420 m³/day) average daily flow, expandable to 305,000 GPD 1,155 m³/day

A purpose-built treatment building was constructed on-site to house the modular units, which were fabricated on skids at Newterra’s Brockville, Ontario facility. The plug-and-play modules were then interconnected and commissioned quickly, avoiding the complexity and delays typical of large-scale construction.

Because Newterra systems are modular and scalable, wastewater infrastructure grows in tandem with the community—delivering treatment when and where it’s needed. Additionally, the project was designed with flexibility in mind: Newterra also offers rental or leasing options to help developers minimize upfront capital costs during early phases of a build.

RESULTS

The Newterra MBR system enables Young’s Cove to meet strict environmental regulations while maintaining the integrity of the surrounding ecosystems. By opting for a decentralized solution, the development achieved:

  • Rapid installation with minimal disruption
  • Scalable infrastructure for phased growth
  • High-quality effluent meeting advanced discharge limits
  • Seamless environmental integration, preserving views and minimizing footprint

The success of the project highlights a growing trend: forward-thinking developers are turning to decentralized, modular treatment solutions to align sustainability goals with long-term community growth.

Newterra’s on-site modular units provides high-performance treatment with minimal impact—supporting growth, protecting views, and meeting strict regulations.
